When I watch this video of me and my twin sister, Dr. Brandi Jackson, on The Ellen Degeneres Show just two short years ago, it honestly feels that I am watching a different person entirely.
I am starting to think of myself as the woman I was before being radicalized and the woman I am becoming after.
This was filmed “before”. Watching it helps me see how much I have grown and changed in just a few short years.

Enjoy this throwback clip, which references “Med Like Me”, the pipeline program I created with my sister and which aimed to increase diversity in Medicine.
Med Like Me, formerly ended earlier this year, when we pivoted to The Institute for Antiracism in Medicine. This pivot was important to me because I have come to believe that Med Like Me, which focused on preparing Black, brown and other minority students to get into and survive medical school, did not do enough to address the root cause of medicine’s lack of diversity.
We formed The Institute for Antiracism in Medicine to begin to elucidate and dismantle the structural causes of racism in our field.

Fun fact: I was pregnant with my daughter Lily during the tapping of this show 🙂
